392-acre reservoir near Trujillo Alto. The Carraízo reservoir on the Río Grande de Loíza above San Juan. A long, river-like water and one of Puerto Rico's top peacock-bass fisheries alongside largemouth, tilapia and catfish. The lake tops out around 49 ft. The depth chart comes from U.S. Geological Survey bathymetric survey data, so the contours are survey-derived rather than computer-modeled. The outline encloses 392 acres, worked by 9 miles of shoreline. A development index of 3.2 means a maze of bays and points: far more casting targets than a round bowl of the same size. Roughly 76% of the water is 15 ft or less, the band where the food chain lives. Figure 2.5 mi of water from one end to the other, 0.9 mi at the beam. It sits in Trujillo Alto County. When the water first warms, peacock bass (tucunaré) slide up into 2 to 12 ft. Summer is a 3 to 15 ft game here, winter a 6 to 22 ft one. Start at Main-lake point. It's a point holding about 2 ft of water and rates prime come spring. The feeding windows run midday and early morning. Keep a topwater (walking bait) or a jerkbait rigged through the warm months.
