294-acre reservoir near Guayama. One of Puerto Rico's oldest reservoirs (1913) inside Carite State Forest, holding largemouth and peacock bass, tilapia, catfish and sunfish. The lake tops out around 69 ft. The depth chart comes from U.S. Geological Survey bathymetric survey data, so the contours are survey-derived rather than computer-modeled. Traced from the shoreline, Lago Carite runs 283 acres with 10.8 miles of edge. The 4.6 development index tells the story — a convoluted bank whose fishable edge far outruns the acreage. About 24% of the surface sits shallower than 15 ft — that's the weed-and-bait zone. Figure 1.7 mi of water from one end to the other, 0.9 mi at the beam. You'll find it in Guayama County. The nearest mapped water is Lago Patillas, 6 mi to the southeast.
In spring, largemouth bass run shallow here, mostly 2 to 10 ft. Midsummer fish sit out in 8 to 20 ft before dropping to 15 to 35 ft for winter. Spring largemouth bass concentrate at Shallow bay flat, a prime-rated weed flat around 4 ft. Fish it in early morning and the evening and you'll meet the bite. You won't need more than a texas-rigged 10" worm or a deep-diving crankbait most summer days.

In spring, peacock bass (tucunaré) run shallow here, mostly 2 to 12 ft. Summer pushes them deeper, 3 to 15 ft, and winter fish settle into 6 to 22 ft. Break off the point is the standout, a drop-off at roughly 19 ft, rated prime for winter peacock bass (tucunaré). Time it for midday and early morning. You won't need more than a topwater (walking bait) or a jerkbait most summer days.

Spring puts tilapia in skinny water — 1 to 6 ft is the zone. Warm water sends them out to 2 to 10 ft; cold water stacks them in 5 to 18 ft. Shallow bay flat is the standout, a weed flat at roughly 4 ft, rated prime for spring tilapia. Plan around midday and early morning in the warm months. In spring, channel catfish run shallow here, mostly 3 to 12 ft. Midsummer fish sit out in 8 to 25 ft before dropping to 20 to 40 ft for winter. Fall channel catfish concentrate at Shallow feeding flat, a prime-rated feeding flat around 18 ft. Fish it in after dark and the evening and you'll meet the bite.
