19,545-acre lake near Savitaipale. A famously clear, deep lake near Savitaipale. Brown trout, whitefish and zander over surveyed deeps; its relict Saimaa char is protected. Start shallow in spring: brown trout sit in 1 to 7.5 m that time of year. Summer pushes them deeper, 7.5 to 18 m, and winter fish settle into 1.5 to 11 m. The spot to know is Break off the point, a drop-off in about 15 m of water that rates prime for brown trout in summer. Warm-month bites cluster around after dark and early morning. Throw a spoon at the thermocline or a deep stickbait (night) until the fish tell you otherwise.

Spring puts lake whitefish in skinny water — 4.5 to 14 m is the zone. Warm water sends them out to 12 to 27 m; cold water stacks them in 7.5 to 21 m. Rock reef is the standout, a rock pile at roughly 1.5 m, rated prime for fall lake whitefish. Plan around early morning in the warm months. A blade bait vertical or a small jigging spoon covers the summer program.

When the water first warms, european perch slide up into 1 to 3.5 m. By summer they slide out to 2.5 to 8.5 m, and by winter most fish are in 3.5 to 10 m. If you only fish one area, make it Shallow bay flat: a weed flat around 1 m that scores prime in spring. In summer the feeding windows fall in early morning. Keep a drop-shot micro plastics or a small crankbait (perch pattern) rigged through the warm months.

Spring northern pike on Kuolimo hold shallow, usually 0.5 to 2.5 m. By summer they slide out to 2.5 to 6 m, and by winter most fish are in 1.5 to 4.5 m.
