Vesi piirtyy 231 hehtaarin laajuisena, rantaa 13.4 km. Rantaviiva on voimakkaasti rikkonainen (indeksi 2.5) — lahtia ja niemiä kaikkialla, mikä moninkertaistaa kalastettavan reunan. Noin 63% pinnasta on matalampaa kuin ~5 m — siellä ruokaketju elää. Päästä päähän vesi mittaa noin 2.9 km, leveimmillään 1.6 km. Vesi sijaitsee alueella Joensuun seutukunta. Lähin kartoitettu vesi on Kaitajärvi, 1.6 km länteen.
