The drawn water covers 1,392 acres wrapped in 19.5 miles of bank — 2 islands included. A development index of 3.7 means a maze of bays and points: far more casting targets than a round bowl of the same size. The shallow band under 15 ft claims about 6% of the surface — that's where the groceries are. Figure 5.5 mi of water from one end to the other, 0.9 mi at the beam. When the water first warms, lake trout slide up into 10 to 40 ft. Summer is a 50 to 120 ft game here, winter a 20 to 80 ft one. Start at Main-lake point. It's a point holding about 16 ft of water and rates prime come spring. The feeding windows run early morning. Keep a white tube jig (deep) or a magnum spoon on downrigger rigged through the warm months.

Spring rainbow trout on Tacheeda Lakes hold shallow, usually 5 to 20 ft. They move out to 8 to 30 ft in summer and finish the year down in 8 to 40 ft. Start shallow in spring: lake whitefish sit in 15 to 45 ft that time of year. Warm water sends them out to 40 to 90 ft; cold water stacks them in 25 to 70 ft. Top water on the chart: Break off the point, a drop-off in the 55 ft range, prime in summer. Fish it in early morning and you'll meet the bite. Throw a blade bait vertical or a small jigging spoon until the fish tell you otherwise.
