Kartalla Sarajärvi kattaa 294 hehtaaria, rantaviivaa 21.6 km. Rantaviiva on voimakkaasti rikkonainen (indeksi 3.6) — lahtia ja niemiä kaikkialla, mikä moninkertaistaa kalastettavan reunan. Noin 50% pinnasta on matalampaa kuin ~5 m — siellä ruokaketju elää. Päästä päähän vesi mittaa noin 5.5 km, leveimmillään 1.9 km. Vesi sijaitsee alueella Imatran seutukunta. Lähin kartoitettu vesi on Loituma, 3.2 km koilliseen.
