Vesi piirtyy 269 hehtaarin laajuisena, rantaa 18 km. Rantaviiva on voimakkaasti rikkonainen (indeksi 3.1) — lahtia ja niemiä kaikkialla, mikä moninkertaistaa kalastettavan reunan. Noin 38% pinnasta on matalampaa kuin ~5 m — siellä ruokaketju elää. Päästä päähän vesi mittaa noin 4.2 km, leveimmillään 1.8 km. Vesi sijaitsee alueella Lahden seutukunta. Lähin kartoitettu vesi on Ala-Rieveli, 8 km itään.
