Why the system is split into sections

One page would mix upper and lower sound flats, Captiva Passage, the narrow mangrove corridors of Matlacha Pass, and the Caloosahatchee-influenced water of San Carlos Bay. Official FDEP assessment units and the exact NOAA Captiva Passage footprint provide stable named boundaries whose shoreline, depth, fish evidence and access can be checked without drawing arbitrary fishing-map boundaries.

Why is Pine Island Sound divided into separate fishing-map pages?

DepthScout follows four official Florida Department of Environmental Protection assessment units—Upper and Lower Pine Island Sound, Matlacha Pass and San Carlos Bay—plus the exact NOAA Captiva Passage footprint. The named split keeps grass flats, mangrove shorelines, passes, Caloosahatchee influence and open-bay channels at useful scale while every polygon is tested independently.

Which Pine Island Sound and San Carlos Bay sections are live?

All five pages are live. Directly measured coverage is 78.69% in Upper Pine Island Sound, 79.91% in Lower Pine Island Sound, 98.63% in Matlacha Pass, 97.62% in San Carlos Bay and 93.06% in Captiva Passage. Every page has 100% assessed coverage and passes the unchanged uncertainty and unsupported-water gates.

Which fish species are documented in the system?

Exact-polygon Florida FWC Fisheries-Independent Monitoring records document sheepshead, spotted seatrout, red drum, common snook, gray snapper, Gulf flounder, permit, gag grouper and black drum across the system, including 718 records and 80 events inside Captiva Passage. Each child page carries only section-supported species that also clear the fixed seasonal fishing-analysis gate.

What survey data supports the depth maps and fishing spots?

All sections combine NOAA BlueTopo with named direct NOAA hydrographic-survey soundings. Matlacha Pass and San Carlos Bay also use measured 2022 NOAA pre–Hurricane Ian topobathymetric lidar and 2003 USGS EAARL lidar. Fishing candidates are anchored to official wreck, reef, seagrass, oyster and measured-depth evidence.

Does every section have public access attached?

Yes. Every section has at least one open Florida FWC Boat Ramp Inventory site. Lower Pine Island Sound uses an official Pine Island Sound site 2.37 km from its assessment-unit shoreline through the named connected water; the page does not attach private, closed or differently named facilities.
