Drawn out, this is 2,495 acres of water rimmed by 11.8 miles of bank. Index 1.7 on the shoreline: a few honest points and pockets, nothing labyrinthine. In spring, european perch run shallow here, mostly 3 to 12 ft. Midsummer fish sit out in 8 to 28 ft before dropping to 12 to 33 ft for winter. Spring european perch concentrate at Shallow bay flat, a prime-rated feeding flat around 1 ft. Fish it in early morning and you'll meet the bite. You won't need more than a drop-shot micro plastics or a small crankbait (perch pattern) most summer days.

In spring, northern pike run shallow here, mostly 2 to 8 ft. Summer pushes them deeper, 8 to 20 ft, and winter fish settle into 5 to 15 ft. Shallow bay flat is the standout, a feeding flat at roughly 1 ft, rated prime for spring northern pike. Time it for early morning and the evening. You won't need more than a bucktail or a weedless spoon over cabbage most summer days.

Come spring, look for lake whitefish tight to the bank in 15 to 45 ft. Expect a summer slide to 40 to 90 ft, then a winter hold in 25 to 70 ft. Start at Sharp break. It's a drop-off holding about 43 ft of water and rates prime come spring. Prime time lands in early morning. A blade bait vertical or a small jigging spoon is the honest summer answer here.

Spring brown trout on Lake Hallwil hold shallow, usually 3 to 25 ft. They move out to 25 to 60 ft in summer and finish the year down in 5 to 35 ft.
