19,545-acre lake near Savitaipale. A famously clear, deep lake near Savitaipale. brown trout, whitefish and zander over surveyed deeps; its relict Saimaa char is protected. Spring brown trout on Kuolimo hold shallow, usually 3 to 25 ft. By summer they slide out to 25 to 60 ft, and by winter most fish are in 5 to 35 ft. The spot to know is Break off the point, a drop-off in about 48 ft of water that rates prime for brown trout in summer. In summer the feeding windows fall in after dark and early morning. Summer baits: a spoon at the thermocline or a deep stickbait (night) gets it done.

Spring lake whitefish on Kuolimo hold shallow, usually 15 to 45 ft. They move out to 40 to 90 ft in summer and finish the year down in 25 to 70 ft. The spot to know is Rock reef, a rock pile in about 5 ft of water that rates prime for lake whitefish in fall. Plan around early morning in the warm months. Summer baits: a blade bait vertical or a small jigging spoon gets it done.

Spring burbot on Kuolimo hold shallow, usually 25 to 70 ft. They move out to 50 to 120 ft in summer and finish the year down in 15 to 60 ft. Deep basin is the standout, a deep basin at roughly 125 ft, rated prime for summer burbot. Best bite is after dark and midday. Tie on a heavy jig + cut bait and you're in the game.
