90-acre lake in Algoma District, Ontario. The lake tops out around 70 ft. The depth chart comes from Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry bathymetric survey data, so the contours are survey-derived rather than computer-modeled. Traced from the shoreline, Hawk Lake runs 90 acres with 2.7 miles of edge. Index 2 on the shoreline: a few honest points and pockets, nothing labyrinthine. In spring, smallmouth bass run shallow here, mostly 3 to 12 ft. Midsummer fish sit out in 10 to 30 ft before dropping to 20 to 45 ft for winter. Winter smallmouth bass concentrate at Break off the point, a prime-rated drop-off around 22 ft. Fish it in early morning and the evening and you'll meet the bite. You won't need more than a drop shot (goby/minnow) or a ned rig most summer days.
